Nothing to stop it from doing what you suspect it might. But I suspect it is
more than just connecting 6 volts of battery to the solder. It has a light
so there must be some components there. Perhaps it has one of these
supercaps that it dumps through the solder. That way the cap can charge
through a resistor, also lighting the light, and the energy dumped through
the load would be consistant with each operation as the batteries aged. That
would also explain the spark, since you can get a large current during a
capacitor discharge.
