Anyone any comments...................... Phil ----------------------------------- The Highways Agency has previously stated that upon publication by BSI of a revised EN 12767 "Passive safety of support structures for road equipment. Requirements, classification and test methods" and the associated UK Annexe, it intends to withdraw TA89. We can inform you that the revised EN 12767 and its UK Annexe were published by BSI yesterday (15th January). James Gallagher (HA - SSR) has today confirmed that HA will now withdraw TA 89 as soon as possible. The new UK Annexe has huge implications for anyone involved in the design and maintenance of UK roads. Whilst it accepts that the decision to use passive safety is a matter for each highway authority, it gives recommendations for using passively safe roadside furniture on ALL ROAD TYPES (Urban & Rural - irrespective of speed limit) once that decision is made. Highway Authorities should note that as this advice exists, any authority not considering if passive safety should be applied in appropriate situations, is at risk. A copy of the new European Norm and the UK Annexe can be purchased from BSI at: http://www.bsi-global.com/en/Shop/Publication-Detail/?pid=000000000030104750 The exposure to risk for design organisations, as a result of the new Annexe, is the subject of a forthcoming seminar, organised by The Passive Revolution and HIGHWAYS Magazine, being held on 12th March at The Institution of Civil Engineers in London (See attached Conference announcement). We should be grateful if you would bring this matter to the attention of all those within your organisation who you consider should be made aware of this significant development.
