Oh well, we can fly it again - it needs a new antenna that got sliced off
in the wind during recovery, battery charge, and a new clear coat for sure
and she's ready to fly.

For those of you wondering, LLC319050 is Lovelock VORTAC 319, a 50
nautical mile radius (launch site from FAA).
Site B = 10 Mile radius
Site B+ = 17 Nautical Mile Radius

With flights like this, you can see why dual-deploy or apogee only is so
key - you can drift to Utah!

Launch was too windy, as you can see in the KMZ it had a gust and wasn't
perfectly vertical.
Had we launched 1hr earlier it would have been maxed out.

Anyhow, 45K is not bad, you can at least see Carson and Reno on the map
and the curvature
of the earth.

I'm still licking my wounds on the lost A/V but there is always next BR

When I showed up, I noticed that I had hastily thrown the av-bay

tested the RocketPi
it recorded nothing... I then straightened out the cable, tested it
again and it worked. So, this led me to believe the cable was ok and I
should fly it. Now, what I have
found at home is that if I re-assemble the unit, I accidentally shorted
the 3V power on the cable and the system wedged!!! The cable only
shorted when it was bent - arrrgh! :(

Anyhow, I caught what happened - as I assembled the system, audio and
video shut down - the last words were "ok, let's put it together now..."
and as I slid the AV-Bay together I munched and shorted out the board
... then, it somehow recorded some more frames, which also led to what
could have been a filesystem corruption (you can see part of the
lift-off to about 10K feet) but then it shut down again and no more vi
deo. The first time it shorted out, it seems USB audio record (arecord)
just hung after that. Alas most of the H.264 ES is corrupt but I can
see parts of the video if I look at it in Interra.

So, this is a good live and learn lesson - I will have to make the
video recorder talk to me or beep a status to know it is live - enough
said.

Central California - Blackrock launch

The day started with me screwing up the site coordinates (as
corrected below) - we used the Mudrock coordinates because the
BALLS site was too soft and further against the foothills

We flew about 6 HPR flights and then got beat down by the heat and
some showers and lightning storms; it cleared up and tomorrow
should be awesome - Mike Smith is flying an MD L265 and I am
flying an MD N1000 both with precious electronic bays

At the end of the day, We went to Blackrock and Mike Smith found a
ruby!

More tomorrow!

Hey Folks,

Launch details are on the website.

The launch is really simple, bring your rockets and launch pad
& equipment and I will run the FAA waiver for you.

We will have a generator.

We will have Porta-potties if someone will pick-up and return
the Portaportties in Reno.

I will be there along with our other members. This is an
excellent chance to fly some big stuff in God's gift to
Rocket launch sites - Blackrock! If
you've never been to Blackrock, this is a perfect chance to
learn to navigate and get around there.

You will only have to pay $20 for the whole weekend including
BLM permit ($15 donation to the club, $5 to BLM).

Best call Brunos if you have no camping plans and book a room
now: (775) 557-2220

We will have a LOT of fun and meet at the launch site every
morning at 9AM till whenever!

Oh yes, rules - there are no rules other than the golden rule
(do unto others) and be in compliance with the Tripoli
safety code and local ordinances.

PS, We don't have generator and light Nazis either so if you
want to crank your music and
party all night you can do that too :-)

Thanks,
-James

Hi Folks,

Great news! Bummed about DairyAire this year - here is
your chance to make up for it!

We managed to plan and put together a TCC Club launch out
at Blackrock on the weekend of Independence Day (4th of
July) ! We also have a commitment from Bay Area Rocketry
to for the weekend for as our vendor.

Launch Dates

Friday 07/03 (6AM to 6PM - Site B+ (150K+) from
10AM-12PM)
Saturday 07/04 "
Sunday 07/05 "

The FAA has approved our flight operations from surface to
150K (146K AGL)
and the range will be open from 6AM - 6PM for all 3 days
of the event
(the whole weekend).

Launch Site A (BALLS Site)

DMS N40°52'59.73" W119°02'04.73"
DD N40.883258, W119.034647 (40.883258, -119.034647)

(Alternate site available
for large projects)

If you are planning high altitude flights up to 50K AGL,
please send your package with all supporting paperwork to
me and Richard King for approval.

If you're flying over 50K AGL, you will need approval by
the Tripoli
Class 3 Committee 90 days prior to flight. Since the FAA
was delayed this
year in issuing our COA, please get your Class 3 package
together ASAP
and I will have it
submitted (I already have mine approved from last
year so if you have questions or need an example, email me
off chat).

The club DOES not plan to
bring launch equipment to the event this year; it's
strictly bring your own gear (like BALLS). However, if
there are
people willing to haul equipment, we can arrange for 1-2
pads and I am sure you can bargain with people for use of
their gear.

We will arrange for Portapotties and there will be a few
areas to hang out
(our Blackrock Lounge as usually done at BALLS).

Launch fees: $25 for the entire weekend!

We can discuss more at the June launch, but now is your
chance
to get some good rocket flying in (next 6 weeks will be
pure Rocket fun)!

I'll get the website updated in a bit. But now can I see a
show of hands for who's going?

Thank you!
-James
