From: JetViper@xxxxxxx [mailto:JetViper@xxxxxxx] Sent: Sunday, April 21, 2013 1:57 PM To: prefects@xxxxxxxxxxx Cc: kent.newman@xxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [TRA-Prefects] From The Class 3 committee (C3RC) Recent conversations between prefects and the owners of certain projects have revealed the need to increase the dissemination of information through several venues including through the TAP's. The C3R3 also plans a newsletter to better keep the membership abreast of new requirements and policies within the Class 3 committee as well as provide a source of answers for project questions. To summarize, recent events have detailed the need to ascertain dispersion of high performance vehicles within the confines( the whole idea in the first place) of the Black Rock playa as well as any location in which a vehicle is projected of 50,000 feet. The policy is: Any rocket designed to fly above 50,000 feet regardless of the impulse is required to contact Kent Newman kent.newman@xxxxxxxxxxx. regarding the level of submission required to ascertain dispersion within an allowable radius. This information will be kept in house unless requested by FAA/AST. FAA/AST realized early on, despite the efforts of Pat G and myself ,that segregating performance by means of impulse is not an accurate measure of insuring accurate determination of dispersion radius. Recent events have dictated we take the course of action. Not withstanding this is an excellent primer for Class 3 but the FAA is very pleased with this.. Dick V Embry Tripoli Board of Directors
