I don't know the specific models but briefly owned a Tascam 4-track and
have worked with a Fostex unit. They often have two speeds, a pitch wheel
and, in Tascam's case, lots of little switches to route the signal.
Transports are quite good, using what we used to call electronic controls;
i.e., not mechanical piano keys.
