Hi Eleanor.

What version of firmware I have on my phone isn't going to help you *smile*. Three customise their own version, so the version number will be meaningless to anyone excepting Three's technical support people. However, it is 100.07.76 and you can check the firmware version on your phone by typing star, hash, 0 four times then hash.

All the best, Ibrahim.

What version of firmware do you have on the e71 Ibrahim?

I have an e71 and I would like to check mine against your version. Cannot quite remember how to do this. Perhaps you can tell me.

Hi Saqib.

Three are particularly slow to release firmware for any of their Nokia phones. I still have the original E71 firmware that was provided on the phone when I bought it back in December last year. They aren't going to release new versions of the firmware unless or until they perceive an actual benefit to their customers so I'm told, plus the effort and resources required to brand and customise the new firmware releases month after month probably don't warrant the effort considering that customers in the mainstream won't notice much difference in performance if any. Also, it has to be said, formatting the phone every so often doesn't particularly appeal to me or others that I know.

All the best, Ibrahim.

Hi. I ran the software updater today and I can not update to the 31x firmware. I have the N95 8gb on Three. Does this mean that Three have not released the latest firmware?

Paul Vodafone insist that to update the firmware is possible. I tried myself but they did tell me I could send it in to then amd they would do it for me. Have you your new phone now? What about your Talks? I actually like the N96 very much.

Again: Absolutely best advice here.

I had been thinking of getting my phone unbranded but, this thread reminds
me precisely why I won't.

I would rather wait for Vodafone, in my case to release their firmware, if they ever do than try to circumvent the process early and get into a mess.

I have also had to claim on my phone insurance over the last week as I
dropped the phone down the loo.

At least I won't have any worries about being found out about any unbranding
exercise I may have undertaken and having a non valid claim.

Cheers.

Paul

Hi Eleanor.

It is made perfectly clear in the Nokia software updater, on the software updater support pages and when you confirm that you want to upgrade that
serious damage can be done to the phone when you interrupt power. You
should use a fully charged battery, under no circumstances disconnect the phone from the computer or touch it in any way whilst the upgrade is in progress. In fact, the best thing to do when upgrading your phone is to go grab yourself a cup of coffee and keep yourself occupied for at least 15 minutes whilst the phone does its thing. Its most probable that you've corrupted the flash memory in the phone, that the phone will need to be sent
off for repair and depending on the warrantee of the phone you may get
charged for any repairs if indeed it is possible. Finally, last but not least, never upgrade a phone if you are unsure or uncertain of the process. Take the phone to a Nokia service centre who will do the same for you free
of charge and in a correct environment should problems occur.

All the best, Ibrahim Gucukoglu.

I think i have done it damage as no power is now going through but I have tested the battery on another phone amd it is working fine. It is crazy if one can damage the phone by trying to upgrade the firmware. What is the
point of it then. I was following the instructions OK.

silly question, but do you have anybody sited there? it will lose talks etc and need to be reconfigured after an upgrade. but if it's lost power during
the process, you could have done it a heep of damage.

I tried doing this tonight and disaster befell the phone! Not only did it

loose connection with PC Suite. I took all the advice given on screen, removing the USB, removing the bttery etc but the phone is completely dead. Sad really. I only have it a month. Any ideas from anyone before I go back

to the shop with it, something to revive or resussitate it.

 Eleanor
