Dear Lynn,
I am hoping this subject will bring some folks out of lurk mode, so we, the local NFB and ACB affiliates and whoever else is interested, can come up with ideas, especially if people know ideas being used elsewhere that really work.
Personally, until people refuse to pay the exorbitant taxes and these ridiculously high utility bills to fund the city, othing will change, and that no change will affect people with disabilities most.

The list is a closed loop. So when we do come up with these ideas we need to break out and tell the powers that be. it is going to be hard for the next few years with the conservatives keeping things well, conservative.

We would, as well, and I understand about the closed nature of our list, but perhaps, among ourselves, since we are nonpartisan, I hope, on that score, we can come up with some ideas to help those who are trying to assist us to sell current employers and the City on ways of being more business-friendly.

If another utility comes in and generates electricity cheaper than the City can I would buy it from them.

Hmm; now that makes sense, but the city can't depend on high utilities for its programs and services; it needs to do everything it can to attract business here.

Yes but not in my backyard.
I think I remember it being politically too close to FSU. That is FSU would bet the most benefit buy their power from the plant and not from the city.

my understanding about the biomass plant, and the reasons it failed, is that mostly no one wanted it located near them, in case it was a big polluter.

Amen about ot bringing in industry that will pollute, but there is a lot of brain power here, so this would seem to be a good location for software 
development, think tanks, etc.etc.

Sure; this kind of thing, where you're not going to get people really 
fired up, is just fine.

We'd all like more jobs; however, I think you mentioned a really
important point: government is a much better employer of the disabled (I believe), than private industry (that wasn't exactly your point I 
know, but it's a related point).
If we all do things to bring in more jobs from private industry, I'm 
not so sure the disabled community would benefit.  Of course,
Tallahassee and surrounds would benefit, so that benefits us. Have to 
be a little careful what we wish for however; don't want to end up
down-wind from a Cole-fired power plant, or a wood-pulp mill.

Tallahassee has to stop living off goverment jobs, though the state 
has been better at hiring blind people than the county or city has
been, but there must be more diversity in employment which would,
hopefully, benefit everyone.
