Hey Harry. you can do all this. But it sounds like your sound card is not set up correctlly. You'll probably have to go in to the controll pannel, go to sounds and audio devices, or what ever they call it in win 7. Might just be sounds. and find your sound card settings dialogue box. Bit hard to give you a lot more than this, because i don't know what you have in there to work with. But if there is a play back tab, you could go in there, and see if there is anything like line, or wav level, uted or not checked.
