Hi,

Are these standard talking book index tones? If so, they're probably approx. 50 HZ, not withstanding tape speed variations and so on. If you can, what I'd probably do is to select each portion with an index tone and run it through a high pass filter at 55 HZ or so and see if that eliminates the tone.
