In the past we have discussed sexual deviance as a case specific item and
sexual violence as a possible case specific risk estimate, if appropriate. I
think there is a good justification for sexual deviance being highlighted, if
you feel that the nature of the deviance is not well-captured in the conduct,
attitudes, relationships, and/or external triggers items. Similarly, you may
want to highlight the sexual nature of the violence risk as a specific risk
estimate. One can certainly think of circumstances in which level of general
violence risk may be low, but sexual violence risk high.

Hi Denis.
Seems to me that your suggestion regarding sexual deviance as a case
specific factor is in line with the manual guidance [p76]. In our male
and female sex offender populations we have certainly taken this
approach. We have however, placed 'sexual violence' within the START/
HCR definition of violence for the purposes of the risk estimate[this
probably warrants analysis]; We use the modified START Outcome/ Yudofsky
Scale to capture sexually inappropriate behaviours.
Further refinement then occurs through the SVR-20/RSVP when appropriate.
Best wishes
Kaz

Has anyone used "sexual violence" as a "case specific" risk estimate on
the START? I would think that, given the meta-analyses, one should add
sexual deviance as a "case specific" strength/vulnerability. Comments
please.

Thanks.

Denis
