"Looking for some new words of wisdom? Check out our hand-picked selection of
commencement addresses, going back to 1774. Search over 350 speeches by name,
school, date or theme -- and find out what they have in common with pop songs
-- on our blog" - from the website
Opening with the memorable words of Kermit the Frog (Southamption College,
1996), the homepage leads to all 354 speeches available at the site. The fight
for equality, embracing failure, changing the world, and remembering history
are among the more than a dozen themes which can be browsed, leading to an
alphabetized list by the first names of notable figures. These include
presidents, musicians, actors, and writers such as Margaret Atwood (University
of Toronto,1983) Aaron Sorkin (Syracuse University 2012), and Kanye West (Los
Angeles Trade Technical College, 2015) whose words were deemed to have made an
impact that lingered long after the event. Many of the speeches are available
on video.
