The Masters: Renaissance & Impressionist Art

Today's site offers an excellent introduction to the art of Renaissance and
Impressionist periods. Gentle Subscribers who prefer to view art with their
feet up, will discover a wealth of illustrations and information focusing
on these towering epochs in art history.

"This site is dedicated to Renaissance and Impressionist art history. Here
you will find concise, well-rounded artist biographies,
signatures/monograms, timelines, maps, quotes, and art works. There is also
a guide to name pronunciation, a dictionary of Renaissance and
Impressionist art terms, biblical terms - and more!" - from the website

The site highlights Renaissance artists from Bellini to Da Vinci and
Impressionists from Cassatt to Van Gogh. The link to the artists' works,
located at the beginning of each artist's biography, leads to generously
sized thumbnail images which may be further enlarged. A helpful glossary of
art terms will clarify less frequently encountered references -- from
chiaroscuro to sfumato. In addition, a useful list of annotated online art
resources is included.
