CIA Museum
Today's site offers a possibly unexpected virtual museum -- from a source not
generally associated with cultural activities. Gentle Subscribers will find an
interesting collection of items and sanitized stories culled from the
declassified history of the CIA's past exploits.
"Inform, Instruct, Inspire ... The CIA Museum supports the Agency's
operational, recruitment and training missions and helps visitors better
understand CIA and its contributions to national security. ... All artifacts
displayed in the museum's exhibits have been declassified by the appropriate
Agency officials. Please note that because the Museum is located on the CIA
compound, it is not open to the public for tours." - from the website
The online museum provides both text and photo presentations (the latter linked
directly to YouTube) with more than 200 artifacts. Storylines, Images and a
Timeline are readily accessible in this curious exhibit, which can be viewed by
Tag, Story, or Date or simply browsed. The heavily detailed Timeline supplies
an abbreviated history of the Agency, while the Storyline section features
various landmark events, among which is the little known but gripping account
of the Berlin Tunnel, while the collection's numerous items include spycraft
equipment such as a microdot camera, circa 1960.
