        BBC - History: Archaeology

With recent historical finds making headlines, today's site from the BBC's
History Division offers fascinating background material in the field
archeology. Gentle Subscribers will discover many of the intriguing aspects of
the discipline, along with specific details on a number of archeological
investigations.

"Insights and introductions to the work of history's forensic experts - the
archaeologists. ... If you are lucky enough to find an artefact, what exactly
should you do with it?" - from the website

Beginning with an explanation of the different types of archeological
exploration, this pleasantly designed site takes a look at battlefield, aerial,
and marine archeology before plunging into Wreck Diving. The techniques section
examines excavating human remains, while a succinct article reveals the science
behind that frequently bandied about term, "carbon dating." Additional
categories cover what may be Britain's oldest house, a Mayan lost city, and the
previously untold story of America's D-Day Omaha Beach landings from the
perspective of an underwater archaeologist.
