Hi: if we propose a constitutional amendment to include all who may want to join, then we may wish to re-look at our objectives and see if we want to generalize them. If we resolve to change the constitution---because it would be nothing short of an amendment, then we must call a meeting specially for that purpose in compliance with the society's constitution and rules, at which we may then effect the amendment. However, my humble advice is that we must keep the substratum of the society always before our eyes?----hands?----minds.

Hello Mr. Juma

Your inquiry is timely, and I want to make the following preliminary response:
1. SOPVID was founded primarily to promote professional excellence
among professionals with visual disabilities.
2. At the moment, the constitution of the society provides for two
types of membership:
(a) Full membership, for full professionals with visual disabilities.
(b) Associate membership, for students with visual disabilities and
for friends and relatives of members.

3. In our most recent AGM held in July 2013, some members felt we
should debate this issue anew, with a view to exploring the
possibility of allowing full membership to anyone who desires it.

I guess we can start this discussion here, and conclude it during our
next AGM. What do people think?

am noticing is the admission of members.
I need to be reminded here Reginald, Celestina, Jimmy and Mute and those
who
were there during the formation of SOPVID. I thought we had put a category
of our membership for both persons with disability and those who were
joining us as "friends" of the society, who were sighted persons.
if my memory has not elapsed, unless this was change in one of those
meetings i did not attend, the SOPVID society was for professionals mostly
those with a minimum of the first degree and above.
forgive me if i am offending anyone, but I think we need to put things
straight here. what are the qualifications of our membership so that its
clear when one wants to join. if it is for everyone with visual disability,
then, the word "professional" should be deleted from the name of the
society
to read say: "SOCIETY FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITY".
Please don't mistake me and think that i am againest anyone joining our
society, but I am sure that our law professionals as Victor and Mute may
advice accordingly, this issue of membership in an organization or society
if not carefully handled may bring friction at a future date.

Hello Joseph Epuu

Many thanks for your suggestion.

However, as we were forming the society over ten years ago, we
thoroughly debated the issue and arrived at the present name. Indeed,
both "impairment" and "disability" denote a limitation. I actually
think that each of us must come to terms with our limitation
(disability/impairment/blindness/partial blindness), for then we shall
be more confident as we interact with the world.

Warm regards

Dear members of the society,

indeed, I'm quite exuberated for da cordial hospitality demonstrated

of professionals with visual imparement.Disability denote incapability
and incapacitation, yet we are equally capable professionals equal to
the task.
Technologically, i am still disabled. It is my humble request to the
society to fully empower me technologically to be able to read with
others on the same script.
