Thanks Dan for the idea. I don't have Sib 6, only 5. I was thinking of maybe
setting up if possible two system text heights, one for normal situations
and then customize one of the other system text categories to a greater
height to use for when I need system text to be higher than a chord symbol
line.
If anyone can tell me what a good spec should be for horizontal alignment of
chord symbols relative to the notehead it's supposed to be above, that could
be helpful. Should it be 0? From when I started using Sibelius about 12
years ago, I've always had the problem of chord symbols slipping too far to
the left, sometimes even over a beat 1 note the chord symbol strangely ends
up on the other side of the barline before the note. Maybe the default is
weird on this or I have something set wrong. It's the only thing about
Sibelius I have had any complaints about ... so many hours of my life I've
thrown away realigning chord symbols (when I had enough vision to do so),
and now that I'm almost total it's a real problem - hopefully not one the
rest of you have had.

If you have Sibelius 6, you might be better printing from that version since
magnetic layout will probably sort this out.
If version 5 is the only option, spend some time looking at the edit text
style and default positions dialogs. You can use these to change the
vertical position of all system text across all parts and the full score.
Definitely get some sighted assistance for this because these dialogs are
complicated and can have fairly drastic consequences.

I like your idea, but I tried it with a friend and he said changing the X Y
coordinates on system text was still not affecting the parts.
I may have to stop using system text for a while, until I can solve this
problem.
The drifting of chord symbols too far to the left of the note is also giving
me headaches. You would think aligning chord symbols with noteheads would be
something computers would be especially good at.

Try to adjust the position via the Properties window. X is for horisontal
position, Y is for vertical position. It should affect both the score and
parts.

I'm having a problem with how system text in scores is being placed in parts
I am creating for a recording session of my jazz compositions.
Frequently, but not always, I need the space above the staff for a row of
chord symbols. Sometimes when I write system text to be placed above the
staff, I am told by sighted people who come over to assist me that the words
might overlap with the chord symbols, or sometimes the rehearsal letters. So
far, this all makes sense to me. However, they say when they move system
text in the score left or right it does affect its placement in the parts,
but when they move system text up or down, it doesn't change the placement
of the text in the parts.
If we go into the part, they can move the text within the part to get it
placed right, but that doesn't affect the score, so we are adjusting things
in each individual part - not fun since I have up to 8 instruments per tune
and 14 tunes to prepare parts for.
Does any of this match other people's experience, or do I have something
wrong in the settings? I've got the usual Sib Access 5.25 and am using Jaws
14, and in general everything is working well.
