Hi Keith:
I don't have time to look up the part number but it sounds like a simple pin
header. Amp/Tyco do have some pretty good SI people on board who might be
able to answer your question. Call your local Tyco rep with your specifics
plus check out their web site for who to call/e-mail.
Good Luck

Subject: RE: [SI-LIST] Re: jitter introduced by a mated connector
thanks for getting back to me. The connector we would like to
use is a 3-row 16-pin per row totalling 48 pins... / standard amp
#650489 ,0.1" centers etc. ,, legacy connector for sure! Do I have any hope?
I don't think I can get a rating from AMP, I'll try but I doubt it.
Since this is a legacy based product , it's not ideal coax nor a very
good grounding schema too... would a card edge be better/ like an AGP style
connector?

Keith,
You also might consider something in addition to what Kai is talking about.
Make sure your connector(s) are rated for the frequency that you are working
at. I ran into a legacy connector (in this case the end connector to a high
speed coax cable) that was only rated to 1 ns. Didn't work too well at <
500 ps.

Keith:
The jitter introduced by the connector will be what is called deterministic
jitter which is bit pattern dependent. Do you have access to any version of
spice? You can get a pretty good idea of this jitter by running a bit
sequence through the single line connector model (obtained from your
connector vendor). Cross-talk will also add to your jitter but the
simulation gets more complicated.

Can some point me in the right direction regarding
the min/max jitter introduced by connectors within
a backplane system ??
- I'm looking into GBit Ethernet type
signals and wondering how many passes through connectors
The system can withstand.. .... I know this is a tough question...
I don't mind learning some new math tricks...Assume that
the signals of interest are diff-pairs / FR4 , etc...18" between
connectors (max)...
Does anyone have any experience with Diff pair signal integrity
using a QualitySemiconductor / quickswitch and passing GB diff
pair signals thru this type of device?
feel free to email me direct, if you want.
Thanks,
