  Hello,

I would like to ask your opinion about the problems
related to the reference planes of differential
gigabit lines.
Generally I consider that digital GND is the best
reference, but the issue is how problematic is it if
+5V (or +3V) plane is used as reference for example?
On a PCB the traces are usually loosely coupled, so I
believe the reference plane is very important. But on
the other hand, noise from the reference plane would
be normally equal on both traces so it should be
rejected at the differential receiver.
Another issue is about Chassis Ground used as
reference plane for digital signals - either
differential or single ended. I have read
contradictory opinions about it, so I would also like
to ask you about this issue.

Thank you,

Alex
