I'm looking for resources related to electronic design (boards, systems) for high vibration and/or impact enviroments. This isn't for airborne/military applications. The applications I have in mind might include such niceties as: rough handling, unprotected truck transportation (maybe off-road), equipment falling to the ground (accidentally) from 3 to 10 feet of height, impact, etc. What is the state of the art for such things as keeping components from breaking off the boards, solder-joint cracking/reliability, etc? Is heavy conformal coating used to protect boards mechanically as well as environmentally? What are the considerations regarding high-speed design and SI on these kinds of boards?
