OK already! This thread has all the earmarks of a discussion spiraling out of control. This thread, in particular, and several others in the recent past have elicited somewhat less than friendly responses from multiple list members in response to questions that were deemed either too simple or off topic. This list is unmoderated and is that way for a reason. Moderation makes the presumption that the list participants aren't mature or civil enough to carry on a conversation without someone approving what they have to say. I don't believe the majority of the list members require that oversight. (besides, I don't have the time and/or inclination to review each piece of traffic before it is sent to the list) I would request that list members refrain from publicly chastising others who may have posted something they may consider too basic or off topic. If a particular piece of traffic offends your technical sensibilities it is a simple matter to just ignore it or delete it. What may be perceived as too basic for one may be just the question several others were pondering but were reticent to ask about for fear of being flogged on list. Denigrating, flippant or insulting remarks certainly won't improve the situation. If a question an obvious attempt to get the list to do homework for the poster then a simple referal back to the poster's text, prof or TA might be an appropriate response. Please refer to Jeff and Jon's well reasoned postings that went out this morning. I concur with their words of wisdom. Andy's inital response to the message was spot on and answered the question just fine. The question posed this morning really wasn't in the EE-101 category of stuff everyone ought ot know. Some of the fine points of IBIS models and how they relate to particular simulators can be anything but obvious at times. Granted, the questioner probably _could_ have figured it out for himself, but at the same time I think the question was certainly on topic for si-list and was asked in sufficient detail to warrant a proper answer. If an ongoing problem develops with particular individuals obviously asking for homework answers or totally off topic info, rest assured that it will be dealt with (probably off line and in the most blatant cases technologically). In the meantime I would request members to refrain from on list accusations, insults and the like in their attempt to cure the perceived problem. As long as I'm writing this, there is one other topic I'd like to cover. When replying to a message please try to trim the thread enough that context is maintained but sufficiently to eliminate the multiple included messages and list footers that seem to propagate in long running discussion threads. Quite often someone will send a one or two sentence message to the list in response to an ongoing thread and include a half dozen previous responses along with all the footer boiler plate replicated a half dozen times.
