Michael, I second the previous comments about the Molex, Rosenberger and Southwest connectors. I prefer the Molex, but for edge Launch the Southwest is my choice. Both are non soldered and thus have a great repeatability. We calculate the footprint for every stack up in full 3D to get the best transition (usually +/-2 Ohms). On comment to the Mini-SMP: The problem with all "non standard" coax is the calibration. Calsets for 2.4mm 2.94mm 3.5mm... are commonly available and you will find one of those at every vna. But for Mini-SMP calsets are hard to find. That means you have to do TRL if you don't want the adapters in your measurement. Given that you stated that the connectors need to be invisible to the measurement I assume you are not planning on TRL, thus without a proper calset for Mini-SMP you will also have the adapters visible in your measurement. If you are interested in accurately measure the losses of a structure (especially for low loss structures) I highly recommend to use TRL. Then you still need good connectors (at least good repeatability), but you are free to chose which connectors to use. I would be interested in using the best performing coax-to-PCB launch I can find so that it will not contribute losses to the actual structure losses I am interested in measuring (i.e., it will be invisible to the measurement, or as much so as possible). Two questions I have would be: 1) What would be the best connector type for this purpose (i.e., interfacing to VNA and high-speed o-scopes for s-parameter, TDR, and TDT measurements)? 2) How important is the PCB footprint for the connector; what would be the best way to make sure you are using the best footprint possible (assuming the case where PCB footprint for a PCB connector are not a no-brainer)? Some connectors I have been looking at would include: 2.4 mm (DC to 50 GHz): * Rosenberger 09K243-40ME3 * Southwest 1493-03A-5 Mini-SMP (DC to 65 GHz): * Rosenberger 18 S 203- 40M L5 * Rosenberger 18 S 102- 40M L5 Thank you in advance for any replies.
