One other thing to mention Gary, and I'm sure you'll find it important is the communications of a user community (read --> listervers) I'm not sure about Zuken, but I do know the Mentor users group listserver requires you to have your software on maintenance to sign up for it. It'll continue when you're off maintenance, but not to sign on originally. Cadence users have their own community (www.cadenceusers.com or .org) that allows you to sign up to their user community listserver regardless if you have maintenance, the tools, or if you've even a Cadence user. Now, I do know all the major tools have very good Host Company websites where you can get updates and download software, but a well established, highly used listserver is a necessity in today's CAD world. Good day.
