Maheshwari, I just finished a 1394b electrical design 6 months ago using the
tri port TI part. The board is working well. The TI app. note recommends that
the TPA+ and TPA- traces be the same length as well as any other port traces. I
had the CAD layout guys route these traces on the top layer. The layer under
these traces is chassis ground which I believe the app. note also recommends.
We did not ground guard the traces. Hope this helps.

Hello,

I have used TSB41AB1 single port 1394-2000a transceiver to implement my 1394
PHY. As the PHY needs to be close to Link controller, PHY chip is placed to
link controller and hence the length of differential traces TPA and TPB came
to 3.7-3.8 inches. The differential trace impedance is controlled by
calculating trace width and clearance for the stackup and the board is not
declared as impedance controlled board to fab house.

Is it advicable to GND guard both the differential traces together like GND
;TPA and TPB; GND? Will it affect the impedance of the traces?

Due to the mechanical of the connector, the traces cannot be routed
differentially below the connector. Hence there is a 100mils difference
between TPA- and TPA+. This is the same case for TPB+ and TPB-. Is it
required to do length matching to so that TPA- and TPA+ have the same
length?

Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Maheshwari
