Hi sally, Sometimes I sit back and think the same exact thing. Each year, we have most of all the terrier groups national specialties in one place, Blue Bell, PA for the Montgomery county Kennel club shows (In conjuction with Morris and Essex, Hatboro and Devon). With the exception of a few breeds, these shows are always held outside--always the first weekend of October. Each year, through RAIN, MUD, Freezing cold, etc, we make it back there (and believe me, when you fly with 4-5 dogs, and Philadelphia is not a major hub) and then drive almost and hour and half to get to a "centrally located hotel between all 4 of the shows" its hell. But each year, come rain or shine, the entries make it. In short, we make the best of shitty situation. I would love for the kerry and wheaten nationals not to conflict, I would love for it to be after 11am and I would love for it to have perfect weather with a direct flight only 5 mins from the airport, but that's not the case. Although the outside factors can be extreme sometimes, its quite funny when we recall it a few years later... "Remember when we had MUD-gomery county and I just made two cuts and had 20 mins to get a dog rebathed and fluffed for the final??" And I thought the shepherd people were the "tough ones" of the bunch. Huge open air ring totally covered- We were on bleachers which since we are all a zillion years older might get a big uncomfortable. The host motel was awesome. I too think in trying to be everything to everyone the location ends up making most people unhappy for one reason or another. But my question is when did German Shepherd people become the prima dona's of the dog world? Aren't we at least as versatile as our dogs. Our dogs can do it all but we only want luxury accommodations. Some of the best memories a lot of us have are when we were out roughing it with our dogs. Anyone from the Midwest remember the topline show when it was in basically a unheated horse arena in the beginning of February? We all drank laced hot chocolate and ran to the main office to warm up around the fire place. We laughed and had fun with our dogs and our friends. Now we go to a show complain a lot and end up with fights and arguments- In the last couple months I have heard of at least 3 MAJOR TO DO'S at the shows. What has happened to to the shepherd family ? www.embroiderybysally.org ============================================================================ POST is Copyrighted 2010.
