I just recently received my passport. Although I was told by the "authorities" in charge when I got mine, one does not need a passport, yet, but it was a good thing to have. I was also told by a friend who lives in his summer home in the Islands in the St Lawrence, that life is just so much easier if you have one, when it comes to crossing the border. Much less hassle and wait. He lives on the Canadian side on Wallis Island. Since I go up to 1000 Islands on a very frequent basis, most of my time is spent on the US side, but at least I will have it for those moments when I get myself on the other side and have to get back.
