Each board can and does accept or vote to overturn prior decisions of
another board. That protects a mistake, or a change that is necessary due to
the
change in the then current factors. That is something that should be done
carefully, and we do need to respect the work done by other boards with any
future decisions.
My opinion on the New Illustrated Standard is that it is a noble and good
idea, and is headed in the right direction. Since I have not seen the finished
product, I would not support it in the current condition it has been given.
The Illustrated Standard needs to be a guide for those who do not understand
our breed. With that in mind, less is better. A new judge is not going to
understand the greatness of the GSD with what we now have to present. It needs
to be shorter, more in line with the perfect dog, and with less opinions
attached. It needs to be a guide, not a perfect document that ends with the
conclusion that what is there is the only thing of value in our breed.
We need to emphasis with any guide for a judge the best, not what is lacking
in faults and therefore can be average.
If people do ask me to, I will be serious. But, it does give me a headache.
Perhaps when the final version is ready, I will be able to change that
opinion.
