I can see your point Chuck as a Vet, but as a breeder I have another view
point and another responsibility.
By preventing bloat (through supplimentation) in one sire who is predisposed
to it, you are condeming many of his offspring who will have inherited his
predisposition. If you didn't suppliment him and he bloated & died, you would
have saved many more owners who would have bought his progeny, the agony of
losing their best friends to Bloat.
Most of our puppies go to pet homes and pet people should not have to
suppliment their dogs to live.
Does the good of one outweigh the good of many?
As you know I lost the most cutest 6 month old puppy bitch in the world last
year to toxic gut. While her death hit me hard, I have to say thank goodness
it happened before she was old enough to be bred and pass her problem on to
unsuspecting pet owners. Will I now suppliment my other dogs? No. I want to
know what's lurking in their pedigrees. (I have notified the owner of the sire
and breeder of the litter and highly suggested her littermates in pet homes
be put on suppliments.)
