In my Chicago-land area (western suburbs), the prices range from $30 to well
over $200 for an ultrasound. The $200+ charge was at a brand new facility
with supposedly all the newest state-of-the-art equipment. My own vet in
his small office just charged me $30. I don't need to pay for someone
else's equipment!

Ultrasound is VERY operator dependant. No matter how new the machine is, or
how many bells & whistles it has, if the person holding the probe isn't good
at cross sectional anatomy, and how it looks under ultrasound, the person
paying the bill may be out of luck. I wonder how much hands on training
vets actually get in school..or if they go to a quickie seminar that the
company selling the machine puts on.....
