As I thought, I did receive one not so nice email asking me what I had
to gain by disclosing this information. To this person I say, too many
of our beautiful GSD's die of torsion every year. It is devastating for
the family or breeder that owns the dogs. I have watched one of my own
dogs (many years ago, a pet) die of torsion and, at that time, I didn't
even know what it was. It was awful for my husband and I, not to
mention our poor girl L'Toya who had to suffer. We had the vet open her
up in surgery, even after he told us there was nothing he could do for
her. What we saw was horrible. Her stomach had flipped and all the
blood circulation had been cut off to all organs, etc. around it. Much
of her "guts" inside were already black from lack of circulation. We
had him euthanize her while she was under sedation. Les and I cried for
days and our remaining girl, Luba, just moped around as she had just
lost her best friend. Education is the key to eliminating mesenteric
torsion from our breed. So, to this person I say, the reason I posted
was to educate and inform. I also would like to say I hope you are
happy for the grief you caused yesterday.

I am so sorry you had to deal with nastiness re disclosing the loss of your
much loved Duncan. The sooner we all realize there is "stuff" in every
pedigree and are able to honestly disclose what we have experienced, the sooner
conscientious breeders will be able to breed away from problems and spare
themselves and their puppy buyers the heartache you (and others) have
experienced.
Sweeping everything under the carpet does no good at all:(
