Today I learned of the tragic death of one of my dogs to torsion.

I am very sad to say CH Sandstone's Slam Dunk It (Woodside's Kennedy
Echolane x Sandstone's Madison Avenue) died on Monday enroute to the vet
with his owner. Duncan was born here and after I finished his Canadian
championship, at 12 months of age, I placed him in a loving home with
two very wonderful people, Frank and Diane. He was a big, goofy happy
go lucky dog. They loved Duncan very much and their hearts are aching
something fierce.

I did not hear this news from Frank and Diane as they were just too
broken up to tell me just yet. The dog community is very small, even in
a city as large as Calgary. Frank and Diane walked Duncan (and their
other girl Kira) in a park every night with the same group of people. A
friend of a good friend of mine also walks her Golden there and heard
about it from Frank. My friend tells me today about "this GSD named
Duncan that died of torsion (not bloat)" and I phoned Frank with fear
and loathing in my heart. Frank immediately started to cry and said he
wasn't ready to tell me just yet and that's why he hadn't called. Well
now we are both crying on the phone.

This is the second time in a year I have had to receive such terrible
news from one of my pet owners. Last year I got a panic phone call from
Dean saying Holly, Woodside's Fortune Teller (half sister to Duncan)
died of torsion. Holly was only 2 years old and Dean and his family had
only had her for about 10 months after I placed her with them. Duncan
just turned 4 this month.

I'm sure I will get some nasty emails for this post but I have nothing
to loose. I just spayed and neutered the Shepherds that will live out
their lives here and placed the younger girls in homes where they are
now spayed as well.

Rest easy my sweet Duncan. You will be missed by us all. It is a very
sad day here at Sandstone.
