The perfect GSD based on our standard has never been produced is a statement
hat most will agree...new question....is our standard a standard that measures
he complete idea of what our dog should be?....a herding dog,a working dog,a
protection dog......most puppies bred by conformation breeders do not go on to
ecome AKC, CKC conformation Champions...most never see the show ring...are
hese dogs not worthy?....the show dog is the exception, not the rule......most
I agree with you Ed, we breed to get as close to the standard as we can, there
is no "perfect" dog. Conformation breeders breed
for show which means again breeding to get as close as we can to that ideal
shepherd. Those that do not turn out for
the show ring, become a person's loving companion or performance dog. Those
that do very well in the conformation
ring can also be a loving companion and performance dog. In my humble opinion
there should not be those that breed
for conformation and those that breed for performance/working dogs. It should
be one and the same if we are
breeding according to the standard. Right?

ost part are physically larger or stronger or faster than most of "US"....are
e not worthy based on the human standard...and yes I agree my analogy is a bit
xtreme...and I am not comparing us to dogs........we created ALL PURE BRED
reeds...and that is not a bad thing.......we spend so much time trying to
rotect our image of what we believe our dog should be and close off the beliefs
nd opinions of what others believe.....a
nd that goes even more so for the breeders of so-called working GSDs........ALL
SDs are working dogs!....She is a working breed, and in my opinion second to
one.......the 2013 World show in OUR country is the perfect opportunity to show
veryone just what a wonderful dog we have....we have far more in common than we
