I always wondered why most folks believe its important for both judges on a
two day show weekend to like the same "type" of dog

After years of showing you realize that two judges can be knowledgeable,
honest and good judges but like different types of dogs. There are judges who
will not put up a missing tooth, and judges who are death on backs, or color
or
other factors. Some judges prefer a darker dog, some a shorter coupled dog,
and some will put movement over type. If you pick for a weekend a judge that
an exhibitor has a shot at both days, you will increase both show entries.

It is not so objective in judging that all honest judges with a full
understanding of the breed, will put up the same type of dogs. Even then two
judges
who select the same type, may often go with one or the other, and one might
go first and the other second. But, if you have a judge one day who will
favor type, and the next day one who will favor movement, you may loose a
number
of entries for both shows. It is too expensive today to travel to shows
where you only have a chance at points one day. Although there are a number
of
exhibitors who will only enter under one of two judges, or who will bring a
dog for each day, and not enter both shows.

It sounds great to say a good judge will always put up the best dog, but the
truth is that judges are human, the standard leaves a number of issues to be
determined, and there are some great honest judges who see things
differently.

Not that there is anything wrong with that.
