I feel this thread was intended not as an argument, a vs, or even a debate, but a plea to get good, knowledgeable judges into the AB ring in order to eliminate this image of two styles. It's called education, and AKC requires precious little education for judges to add our rather difficult breed to their applications. It is up to the judge as to whether he wants to truly learn or just to check the box to become approved. We are the ones who can make the difference, and we are slowly doing so. In the last few years, there are many dogs who are winning in both rings. How can anyone not see that this is a good thing? Although I, like most on this list, prefer the specialty show, we still have but one type because type is the standard. Type is what defines a breed as opposed to another breed. There should be no stygma to winning in either ring as they should unequivicably be the same. We are making progress : more clubs are providing larger rings for us ; more are giving us knowledgeable judges that we request. They don't know what judges we want if we don't tell them. Sooooo, rather than thinking of this as argument or dissention, think of it as just another way that we can do more for our breed, our ONE breed There is no problem with those who choose to attend only specialty shows, nor is there a problem with those who prefer the AB, let's just help the judges recognize the good ones in both rings. It's still called education, and one of the most important elements of education is visual. Let's show them the good ones regardless of which ring we, as exhibitors, prefer. Carolyn. It is time for all to reflect that many of the top so called specialty judges also do AB shows. I should know since all my Champions have both major and minor points from them. Am I ashamed of my Champions. Like h---!! I remeber when Torrey won the Pacific Coast Championship trophy that the San Diego Club gives every year. Dave Renke was the judge and I remember the silence when he won after all as one voice was heard saying" he's an AB Champion" Well I will still match my Torrey and his brothers and sisters and their offspring against anything in Specialties. I learned very early in the game that those shows were not always on the up and up. Not because my dogs did not win but because of what the ringside was so freely saying. Boy am I glad I am retired from showing and breeding. We are never going to bring new blood in as long as we continue to have these demeaning discussions. Other breed people always questioned why our people never stayed around for groups like they did. Makes you wonder doesn't it. We are supposed to love the breed...all of them and all of us. Marie K.
