Can't trace dogs with the tattoos in the ears easily and yes I have tried.
Even going to the GSDCA office, only a that dog competed in German style
conformation, submitted x-rays to go to Germany or competed in SchH at SV
trials do they have any way to help trace tattoo's.
Yes I have had a couple dogs over the years with their ear cut off come into
rescue as strays.
Any dog coming in from Europe now does have a microchip along with the
tattoo.
Many people do not register their microchip, I have to trace them back with
the original seller (vet, shelter) that sold them hoping they have good
records. When breeders buy bulk chips from catalog sales you can't trace
them at all if not registered.
