Hi Cheri, Your dog sounds to me like a typical case of splenic torsion. That why the full look without the accumulation of air in the stomach. A Splenic torsion can be very uncomfortable but not fatal. Often a dog will have the splenic torsion several daysbefore anything is done. The dog may then have bloated as it will respond to the splenic problem . If the dog was not very distended, only moderate accumulation of gas in the stomach, this may not have been a classic bloat case. Only the vet would know. Usually a greatly distended stomach will then twist. If there is only a small amount of gas accumulated it may just be the result of the spleenic problem not what we classify as bloat caused by the over production of gas, by bacterial fermentation in the gut. This bloat occors within minutes..You can see the dog blow up in front of your eyes..If this torsion occured prior to bloating, the accumulation of gas in the stomach is much less dramatic.
