What I remember is receiving a constant contact in the last 2 weeks asking
for trophy donations (like 94 or 98 of them!!!) for the WDS/SV style GSDCA
sieger show.... Apparently the members who do support that event aren't
willing to open their pockets to pay for their own trophies? It is
expected that the national breed show (AKC style) and trials support their
trophies with donations with the "reward" being a blurb in the catalogue
and the trophy box labeled in respect to the donor. The way I see it is
that if there are over 90 unfunded trophies for that event, the GSDCA is
going to (again) have to absorb the costs. My feeling also is that if the
other events (breed show & all trials) didn't find donors for the trophies,
the trophies wouldn't be had year after year, or am I wrong? I can
understand a "few" being unpaid for, but over 90 a month before the
event??? With the overall costs of that event being higher, and the
trophies not being covered for by donations... Why would that type of event
continue to get the expensive prizes when the members don't support them?
That I serve currently and have served (even as treasurer for 2) not for
profit boards, I fail to understand the reasoning why any event is
supported so extravagantly when the membership doesn't support the
added extravagance. Granted, their entries are higher to help absorb the
costs, but that's the pay-to-play at that particular venue. Even I, as a
poor veterinary technician, donate money for trophies yearly (even when I
haven't gone to the shows) and more given whenever I am called on to
donate... It's the right thing to do when one supports their breed I think.
Perhaps next year, after 2 years for an event to be proven, either the
trophies will go away or the supporting portion of the membership will pay
up. The GSDCA needs to sew up the holes in their pocket any way possible it
is said....

Very interesting position. We are being told we will remain in St. Louis
until the club shows enough reserves.
Here we find the idea that we will not spend money to support the SV until
the club shows enough reserves.
The major cost as I read it, is paying for a judge to come from Germany.
We have some judges here in America, (I think Helen Gleason our National
Specials Judge is qualified, and I think Dr. Goldberg), and there is no
reason why the GSDCA has to carry that load, until we have enough reserves.
I do support the total dog. I even like the St. Louis arena. I can
appreciate all the board does, but there should be some balance.
If the members of the GSDCA are asked to sacrifice something, not
supporting the SV having a show in America might be a more rational demand.
