Yesterday we said goodbye to our precious DeeCee, after her short but
courageous Battle with Cancer. DeeCee had 9 Championship Points when she
retired from the Ring. We got her from her Breeder-Owner 3 days before
9/11/01.
DeeCee immediately established herself as a beloved Family Companion. She
assumed the Responsibility of Pack Matriarch, which included jobs such as
helping train Puppies, comforting dogs and cats after surgeries such as
Spay/Neuter, and calming me down when I got over-emotional with my Dial-up
Internet "Service." Every Litter of Puppies born in our Pack spent some time
with DeeCee, being trained in the ins-and-outs of being a German Shepherd.
DeeCee was a natural-born Comedienne, and she showed a lot of Puppies how to
get into Mischief. (Opening and Raiding the Refrigerator was the most famous
trick she taught a Litter).
We all know when we get a Dog that this Day will arrive sooner or later. But
that doesn't make it any easier to handle. This sweet and gentle Girl is now
at the Bridge, free of Pain, and healthy once again. I take Comfort in that
Knowledge.
You can rest now, my sweet and brave DeeCee. You did more Good and brought
more Joy in your short 14 Years than many People do in a Lifetime.
