OMG Terry! I just laughed so hard coffee flooded my sinuses!
What I’m wondering is that we’re going to be continuing to lose another $50K a
year until we make up (a total) of $250K to where Purina can’t be afforded, or
actually be trying to reduce it? LOL
Would that mean the nationals have to yield an $80K profit?!? Wondering
because for 2015 there was a $30K deficit due to the operating costs- of things
like the website done by a club member (earning $44K/year- more than many
educated careers!) and poorly at that. (Sorry, the website expenses are a bone
of contention to me… the careless errors and formatting errors are solely that
of the web designer/web master. I would do it for only $30K and be
Johnny-on-the-Spot for it! AND I would go through and change the title bars so
the tabs don’t 2015 National for this year… nor for next, just for one thing!
And tables would be as one- one table, one font, one format, instead of being
erroneously separated. It just doesn’t look professional. )
Done complaining and offering a solution for that. I even have my own software
for code writing. I don’t think the club would want me as treasurer… I would
tighten the belt by not writing checks for unbalanced budgeting! Except, in
the cases of our programs that are directly related to the members & dog events!
Oh speaking of treasury, I wonder what is going to happen there? I noticed
that our current treasurer is not running again this term, but also noticed
there was nobody running to fill the position, nor did the nominating committee
nominate anyone (or they didn’t accept and committee didn’t nominate anyone
else). What is going to happen there? The club pay for what is typically a
volunteer job? Maybe creative accounting done by the auditing firm will hide
the loss for that…

No worries Ed they will start rotating the national again as soon as they
make up the 250,000 loss. BUT at an average loss of 50,000 per year I would
guess the problem will be solved in about 7 years.

10 years ago when I ran for the board I believed that the National should be
at the same location every year! And I said this very publicly! Looking into
my crystal ball at that time I correctly saw how impossible it would be to
fly dogs in the future! I thought scrambling around looking for different
sites every year was costly and counter-productive! I was right again! I
changed my views after lively discussions with Evan, the late great Dick
Whalen and a few others! We are a dog club! A non-profit dog club! Every one
should have an opportunity to have a National within a day's drive every once
in a while! Yes it's hard to get to the west, but do you think it was easy
for west coast folks to get to Philadelphia a few years ago ( how much did we
lose at that National) if an honest attempt at rotation was actively pursued
by the board we would not be stuck going to St Louis every year, and the fact
( if it is a fact) that 80% of members live east of the Mississippi that fact
should have no barring on where the National should be placed! We in the west
pay our dues just like everyone else ( actually Penny pays mine and she lives
in the east but that's a whole nother issue) I love you Zoe and you know it,
but I'm not buying the St Louis/Economic argument! Dick Whalen would be proud
of me! Ed Hill

Subject: [ SHOWGSD-L ] October Board Meeting
Under Robert's rules, we would need a 2/3 vote of the Board to change to
another venue for 2017
and a viable site to replace Reno with other than St Louis. It will not
happen as a lot of work went
into getting St Louis for 2017 with other Clubs
Look for a 2018 site - a viable site that meets critera
Sites that worked 10 years ago no longer work
For the most part, flying to a National is not feasible. Gone are the days
where they allowed you
to walk onto a tarmack and see you dog loaded when there were plane changes.
Airlines have changed their rules - they want the dog to stand up and not
have their ears touch the
top of a crate. I feel that my dog standing is dangerous. I want them not
standing or sitting in a
crate for safety. I will never put my dog in a 700 crate. And even the
plane from Phillie to LA
could not accomodate a 700 crate thru its cargo doors!
Also try to remember that over 80% of membership is east of the Mississippi
and some need to be
able to get to a National to even come close to not losing our shirts.
The site needs to accomodate our money makers - Agility and Obedience/Rally
as well as herding and tracking. Cost of tent rentals and equipment rentals
are what cost the most
We also need electric and internet (for sales of catalogues, etc)
California is not dog friendly, and many sites will not permit us to use
their grass. Hpotels were
really expensive.
Read the minutes online and see how many sites we looked it on the West Coast
that really were
not feasible - recommended by members.
You need a solutions that is viable to change anything.
I am so glad that I will no longer have to take the abuse after 12/31
The Board remains open to options while trying to rebuild a safety net.
