Here's something else to consider about the GSD stack. Back when
shows were beginning, it is my understanding that the German
handlers were not allowed to pose the dog. Since most well
constructed GSDs regularly stopped in our version of the stack,
I would think that definitely contributed to that stack becoming
the norm.

Yes, the power of transmission begins in the rear with those
4 legs. The standard, if I'm right, actually mentions they're
to be around 1/8 longer than tall so they'll be able to TROT
smoothly and easily. Just look at the balance that one
leg being forward makes. Ah, yes, balance is what we
have for what these dogs do. I explain that the single
tracking is neat with the trotting movement of our dogs.
I make some comparisons of the use of others, like the
sled dogs who need square type of power and will move
and be stacked square giving the even and steady ways
for strength of pulling. Then the build of the Daschund
for digging and getting into the hole after tha badger, the
short legs have a purpose as do those of the Bassett.

The sight hounds are, of course, long legged and looking
thin in the waistline for speed rather than a lumbering way
like a heavy St. Bernard who is built for trudging over snow
and mountains originally. JMHO Norma no L
