No, not genetic. It can happen for a variety of reasons, parasites
overload, diarrhea (dog straining), partial blockage.
I want you to picture you taking a sock off and the sock rolls over on
itself, same thing can happen with a dog's intestine.
Surgery may be successful...or not, really depends on how much intestine is
compromised and the skill of the surgeon...and luck.
Wishing the best for this five month old but this is a reason why I never
relax if a dog has diarrhea and I am a bit nuts about worming protocol.
