Well, there is actually proof (somewhat) to hybrid vigor (heterosis) and it has
to do with how the genes express themselves when mapped, but most work has been
done on plants which, of course, is not a dog. The environment of a plant can
be so much better controlled. I think that the idea of mixed breeds being
healthier is partially a result of poor breeding practices of some purbred dog
fanciers where they linebreed or inbreed on animals that produce undesireable
traits and health problems and also an unfortunate backlash caused by
responsible breeders testing and talking about health problems within their
breed, something that backyard breeders and puppy mills don't really care
about, but something that the general public hears about and unfortunately
assumes that all menbers of a particular breed must suffer from. Cynthia

Well, that's my response to that statement....it really does make them stop and
think, many come back and say thank-you for giving them this food for thought
or new insight....
Now, back to lurking, Actually I was cleaning out my mailbox before I get set

Health information might be a good bullet point to our increase knowledge
campaign if we develop such a thing.
