[ SHOWGSD-L ] Re: How old is too old to breed?

Thank you to everyone who answered my question. Here is the actual situation
that came up in conversation last week. Tell me what you, as a breeder would
do.
During a conversation with a reputable service dog organization, an owner of
GSD's was asked if she had any "breeding stock" from XXX lines. This
organization has had positive experiences with these lines. Keep in mind,
GSD's fell by the wayside in favor of Labs and Goldens. However, current
demands are favoring GSD's. The owner doesn't consider her girl "breeding
stock."
The owner has a 6.5yr old bitch, still intact. The bitch has had one litter
from a natural breeding. She was an easy whelper and a great mom. Two of her
pups are already working as service dogs. The bitch is healthy and would have
the best private vet care.
Here was the offer. The organization would basically lease the bitch and breed
to a stud dog of their choice. She would be with them from her next season
until after the pups were weaned. She would be 7yrs old at the time of her
next season. The owner would basically have to give up all control as soon as
she came into season. And, this is a spoiled rotten house dog.
OTOH, this bitch has already produced pups that have gone on to become service
dogs. Would this be too stressful to the bitch?
What would you do?
