Several people have e mailed privately asking the requirements for a futurity judge.....they changed somewhat for 2007. The following are the major requirements.........let us know if you qualify. Sure other chair persons would be interested as well. All Futurity judges must: 1. Must be a member in good standing with the GSDCA and the AKC. 2. Have exhibited German Shepherd Dogs in conformation for a minimum of 10 years. 3. Have bred 2 German Shepherd Dog AKC Champions and have been the owner of record of at least one of them while it was exhibited to its championship. 4. If not an AKC licensed judge or a provisional judge, must have attended a GSDCA judging seminar and provide documentation thereof. 5. If not an AKC licensed judge or a provisional judge, have stewarded at 2 AKC specialty shows, supported entry at all breed shows, or GSDCA futurities. A copy of the catalog sheet showing the club's name, judge stewarded for, and date of show must be provided and signed by show chairman. 6. One of the following criteria must be met - the prospective judge must: a) be an AKC licensed judge of GSDs or have AKC provisional status to judge GSDs. b) have judged a minimum of 6 German Shepherd Dog Specialty Club AKC sanctioned matches or sweepstakes. One GSDCC futurity assignment may be substituted for an AKC specialty match. One AKC sanctioned all breed match may be substituted provided at least 25 herding dogs were exhibited and judged by the applicant. The all breed match chairman must verify the number of dogs exhibited and judged by the applicant and this must be sent in with a flyer on the match. This eligibility requirement must have been completed prior to the signing of the agreement and documentation must be provided c) have judged one or more GSDCA Futurities. 7. Must reside at least 300 air miles from the show site and can not judge in the region in which he/she resides. 8. A person may judge a futurity only once every 3 years. 9. In order to receive PC approval a proposed judge must sign an agreement provided by the National Futurity Chair. he must also state that no member or his/her household or immediate family will exhibit or handle a dog at any Fut/Mat show where they are judging including the national Fut/Mat. 10. No person may accept a Fut/Mat assignment if they have received or will receive financial compensation or other compensation for handling a dog at any show within a full calendar year prior to the date of the proposed assignment. 11. Judges must agree to follow the AKC rules regarding judging at cluster shows *conformation judges and household members may not exhibit any breed and judge on the same weekend or at companion shows within 3 days of each assignment(before or after). 12. No person judging a Fut may judge the Nationals in the same year.
