Well, according to Zoe's post, West Coast people.....if you want to
complain about the National site I sure hope
you are a member of the Parent Club if that is true that 80% of the
members are EAST of the Mississippi!!
That certainly speaks to the actual HOPELESSNESS of this problem if
that is how the Board is now making their
decisions, because at this point many more in the West are considering
not renewing their membership.
( By the way....California is not dog unfriendly IMO ....and we live
here with dogs! ) <G>
I started explaining this problem about the airlines TEN YEARS AGO in
warning that we need to begin making plans
for three permanent sites that could actually be reached by driving
from all directions.....and possible for at least
some to fly in via a main hub airport.
( Interesting that we now have a Board member telling us this...as if
this is why we stay in St. Louis! )
Many of the responses I got then, would be someone coming back with
the argument that they just flew their dog from
point one to point 6 with no problems. Well....that was then and
this is now. It STILL can be done occasionally...but
just as Zoe says...at great expense....very few.....and a humongous
crate!!!
Regarding California... or any other sites on the actual WEST
COAST.....NO ONE is demanding a National right on the
Coastal States. We ARE asking for "reasonable" West sites such as
Utah, Arizona, etc. We were even told that
Colorado was a "West Coast" National....and we were even OK with
Colorado! Kansas at least is CENTRAL!
RENO was a BOARD DECISION....not on any of us. Most of us were very
clear that it was not a good site for flying
into with a dog.
I would like to know if all the "Lots of work" that went into
getting Purina again might someday possibly go into another
site instead!! Some of the sites that did work in the past ....
STILL WORK....but someone has to try to get them ...and
try to get them booked ahead. Can't do that when everything stops
in St. Louis

For the most part, flying to a National is not feasible. Gone are the
days where they allowed you
to walk onto a tarmack and see you dog loaded when there were plane
changes.
Airlines have changed their rules - they want the dog to stand up and
not have their ears touch the
top of a crate. I feel that my dog standing is dangerous. I want
them not standing or sitting in a
crate for safety. I will never put my dog in a 700 crate. And even
the plane from Phillie to LA
could not accomodate a 700 crate thru its cargo doors!
Also try to remember that over 80% of membership is east of the
Mississippi and some need to be
able to get to a National to even come close to not losing our shirts.
The site needs to accomodate our money makers - Agility and
Obedience/Rally
as well as herding and tracking. Cost of tent rentals and equipment
rentals are what cost the most
We also need electric and internet (for sales of catalogues, etc)
California is not dog friendly, and many sites will not permit us to
use their grass. Hpotels were
really expensive.
Read the minutes online and see how many sites we looked it on the
West Coast that really were
not feasible - recommended by members.
You need a solutions that is viable to change anything.
I am so glad that I will no longer have to take the abuse after 12/31
The Board remains open to options while trying to rebuild a safety
net.
