There's a gal here close to me that breeds blk GSDs. She has done this for
many years. She just joined my training class with two youngsters. She has
bred most of her American stock back to very healthy European IPO titled
stock. She's mostly into the working lines not breed. There's 7 month old
puppy, Jack I've fallen in love with. The most fantastic head piece with blk
eyes, bone & temperament you would kill for. Came out of excellent lines I'm
so tempted. I love the Amer., breed type but health is the very first thing
I look for in any animal. The rest comes after that. Extremely difficult
playing the game with Mother Nature.

We ( the list) were talking about genetic diversity in the breed and the
prosand cons of increasing our gene pool with GSDs in Europe and other
countries. I got the sense from reading a few posts that this was not
necessarily a good thing. Well it depends on what you're trying to
accomplishwith increasing the breed's gene pool. What is our number one
goal?This is where it can get 'touchy'.... when I trained and bred
protectiondogs high drive and a strong will to fight/bite the bad guys was
our number one goal, increasing that gene pool with say your average GV
wouldhave most likely taken some of the 'edge' off the resulting litters!
Now what is the number one goal in breeding show dogs? Well let's face it,
it's conformation! You take that same GVX and breed her to my Sch /IPO III
and you most likely lose conformation in the offspring although you might
gain a bit of attitude
