Hi Margery: Rotating between fixed sites is IMO a great idea. An even
greater idea IMO, is to return the National to the three days it used to
be. What was the total amount of days the National lasted this year
with all the meetings, etc., I believe it was something like nine days?
It took me two days to drive to the National this year and two days back
and next year it will be even longer, but I hope to make that one also
in two VERY LONG days. So had I stayed for the whole event including
driving that would have been 13 days (almost 2 weeks). Yikes!!! I only
attended for the last three days. I totally missed the futurity finals
which I so wanted to see. IMO, the futurity finals SHOULD NEVER HAVE
BEEN in the begininng of the week. How many people can take off of work
all this time? If the need still arises, put the trials and obedience
in the beginning of the week so those people can particpate in their
sport the way they like to and should, and then do the conformation the
last part of the week. And if people want to see both events, then they
can choose to stay the full amount of days. By dividing the events,
people can more readily choose around their work schedules. The
futurity part of the show should have never been seperated from the rest
of the conformation part. Plus with the expenses the way the are, who
can afford to stay for a week or more at a show? Let's get reasonable
here and let's make it affordable to more people than it is now. With
shipping costs the way they are, and dogs costing more to fly than
humans, the show attendance will become smaller. I will only go to ones
that I can drive to if I'm bringing a dog with me. I won't ship my
dogs anymore, not even for breeding. They're too valuable to me and
with all the crazy things that are happening with the crazy "groups" of
wacko's out there, not to mention the mishaps at the airlines
themselves, my animals won't be flying anymore. So we must appeal to
the masses of people and what we can afford and how we can attract the
most people. No easy task you board members and officers have. You
took on a hard job, but I trust in the people that the membership voted
in to do the best job they reasonably can for the betterment of all.
Good luck, Barbara Galasso
