The Past - The Classified Mission - Part 1 By Jefferson and Luann Carnegie Time â 6 Years Ago The Ambassador's Shuttle, came alongside the USS Hanoi, unknown to anyone on board the large vessel, except for the two awaiting transport. The shuttle had an experimental cloaking device. With the war with the Dominion, all precautions needed to be in place for the safety of any Ambassadorial figures. The two people waited quietly in crew quarters, waiting for the signal, it had already been placed in their records they would be going on extended duty with the Ambassador, though, no one knew unless they would look. Luann looked over at Jefferson, âAre you sure that we won't get in trouble for doing this?â âAnd if we do? They will only reprimand us... and I would probably lose my commission, but it will mean a lot more, if we don't.â âOk, Jefferson, I trust youâ, and she smiled. The next moment the transporter beam took them both aboard the Ambassador's shuttle, and to a whole different journey ___________________________________________________ Jefferson and Luann stood on the transporter area on the shuttle, in front of them was Ensign Jake Bernard who Jefferson knew was the Ambassador's Aide, and Pilot, next to him was the Ambassador, Andrew Carnegie the Fourth. âHello, my son, welcome aboard my shuttle, and you must be Luann, I have heard a lot about you, in the short time you have known my son. It is a privilege to have you on this duty.â Both of them said, âThank you.â Jefferson continued, âEverything is set into motion?â âOf course, and nothing is spared to get what is needed done.â Luann had to ask, âSir, we won't get in trouble for this, will we?â âMost likely not, if anything you'll be congratulated. Now, Jake here will escort you to the seating area, and we'll get back to Earth for further briefing.â âSee, Luann, nothing to worry about.â, and together they walked to the seating area, and prepared for the ride home. ___________________________________________________ Ambassador Carnegie returned to the forward compartment, and awaited his aide after Jefferson and Luann were settled in the back. When his aide returned, the Ambassador instructed, âPilot the shuttle back to Terra, via the Andoris Belt, we are to pick up a package there and deliver it along with Jefferson and Ms. Luann to the assembly on Terra. âUnderstood, Ambassador, course laid in, and executed.â âVery good... now we just go with it.â Meanwhile, in the back, Jefferson and Luann were working on PADDs to at least prep themselves for this mission. ============================= As the shuttle neared the Andoris Belt, the shuttle scanned the pre-arranged coordinates on a desolate asteroid. There was a package that was beamed aboard. Within it contained a something that due to the War was difficult to transport around via ship. ============================= The shuttle glided across the coast of New England, towards the Carnegie Estate. Jefferson and Luann waited, they would set down at the Estate, and on the following day, meet up with other select team members. The mission would be over in a few days. Hopefully, it would be casualty free, as it was expected to go. ============================= The team met the following morning to get acquainted, there would be a lot of working together over the next few days, they all knew the goal, and what was needed to reach it. They would be leaving for the European Sector in two days, and everything must be ready by then. ___________________________________________________ Ambassador Carnegie, went to the room of Jefferson, and knocked softly. âEnterâ, Jefferson replied. Andrew walked in, âI was hoping to have a man-to-man chat with you son. This mission you are going into is something that shouldn't be taken lightly.â âI understand, Father, it will provide challenges that I've never been put in before now.â âQuite correct, come, and let us walked about the grounds.â They walked and talked about many things. They talked of the past ancestors that went on before. They looked at the stars as never before seen them... Ingonyama nengw' enamabala Night. And the spirit of life calling Mamela And a voice With the fear of a child asking Mamela Wait There's no mountain too great Hear these words and have faith Have Faith They live in you They live in me They're watching over Everything that we see In every creature In every star In your reflection They live in you. Ingonyama nengw' enamabala ___________________________________________________ âSon, there is something I need to tell you....â, as the two of them walked among the floral gardens. âYes, father?â âI've been diagnosed with a virus, or rather it seems a genetic defect, and it has been in the family for centuries. From studies that I've been able to order done, it is only transferred to the first born, and in over 200 years the first born was always a son... like you. The effect of the defect is ...â but he was cut off. âNo, I don't want to know what happens.â The shock of the news caught Jefferson off guard. He had heard it in other families, where genetics caused hair loss or other conditions, but they never happened to a Carnegie. âI know this is hard for you, and that I have inquired into having your DNA checked.â âAnd?â Jefferson asked clearly. âNothing has shown on the tests. It appears that the DNA strand is solid.â âBut I should get tested again in a few years?â âI would. But this news should not hamper your mission, it is almost vital that it is completed. The Carnegie name depends on your success, but I don't need to tell you that.â âYes, father, I know... we hope to not let you down.â âNow are you ready for it? Everything is as you see fit?â âOf course, the team is ready to leave for the European Sector. And from what I understand, everything will be ready for us on the other end.â âVery good. Now, I must rest. I shall see you later thenâ, and the Ambassador walked back into the house, leaving Jefferson out among the flowers, and a chance to look at the stars. ___________________________________________________ Jefferson wondered why his father told him the information, but he would not let it hamper the mission. The next morning the group would be leaving for Europe and finish what they had set out to do. Jefferson had the package, and Luann was next to him as they entered the shuttle. They wore plain clothes, except for the device crisscrossing their chests. The other two would follow in a second shuttle, but they would all be leaving on the first shuttle. The device was to allow them to go undetected from sensors that security most likely put into place around the peace summit. The group also wore no Starfleet insignias or comm badges. The other two members would be following in a second wave to complete the job, once Jefferson and Luann had finished placing the package. The destination would be the Parthenon in Athens. The target would be a peace summit, with representatives from the Breen, Dominion, Cardassians, an Admiral and a couple of ambassadors from the Federation, Romulus and Qoânos. The talks already had not gone well, but when the mission would be over each side will have had losses, with no one to blame. In total, fifteen lives were going to be the price for the whole of the Federation. The threat of any group attacking the others during such negotiations would cause them all to decide on a mutual course of action. The bomb exploded just as they were about to take off with their two companions. The mission was successful, but Starfleet Security had been waiting for them. ___________________________________________________ âCommander Jefferson Carnegieâ Lieutenant Commander Luann Wintersâ Lieutenant David Paulsonâ Lieutenant Deborah Duffâ you are hereby charged with High Treason towards the Federation, fifteen counts of murder, and conduct unbecoming an officer. How do you plead?â Jefferson looked at the team, they nodded, and he walked forward, âAdmiral, I speak for my colleagues we plead guilty on all counts.â The gasps could be heard all around the room that the court-martial hearing was going on, one person even fainted. The Admiral rang the bell to get order. âVery well, you will be held in confinement for two days, at which time, you will be put to death for these crimes.â Jefferson stood tall, âUnderstood, Admiral.â They would take the fall, they would not implicate the others that started the plans, the other Admirals and Captains ___________________________________________________ The next day, Ambassador Carnegie visited his son in confinement. âIâm sorry, my son, that this is happening, they set a trap, and unfortunately you were caught in it.â âWe knew of the risks, father. We all did.â âI have talked to the Admiral, about another method, so that you would not be killed, he has agreed to let you off, provided you go through a mind erasure for the recent events, all the way back to before going through the Academy. â âWhat about Luann?â âI can not save Luann. I did try but the Admiral would only allow one person to go through this process.â âThen she can do it in my place. I led the team so I should be killed in her place. She was only on the team, because I wanted her there.â âI will not allow that son, you are my son, and you must go on. There is more for you to do in your life.â âBut, Luann is young also, and she has a life ahead of her.â Jefferson slumped in the chair, and put his head in his hands, âand what of your grandson?â Andrew looked squarely at Jefferson, âShe canât be?â âShe is.â They had completed the mission with success, but now three members of his team were to be put to death, and his unborn son, and he would not remember any of it. He wouldnât even remember the Academy or anything. He would never remember Luannâs face or touch or getting a chance to hold his son. So be it. He would remember. They might force him to forget, but he would remember. One day. One day he would bring down the Federation from within.
