Sorry for the short notice on this one, folks...there are reasons:

From www.sbe5.info

SBE Atlanta Business Meeting: Friday, May 6th at noon. The location is the Atlanta Diner, 2071 N Druid Hills Rd NE Atlanta, GA 30329

As has become an unofficial custom this time of year, we will be holding a business meeting in early May. This will allow us to discuss chapter business, programming ideas, and seek out candidates (victims, pigeons, suckers, etc.) for chapter elections. If you have ever wanted to serve Chapter 5, now would be a good time to consider doing so.

This will be a "dutch treat" meeting as we have no sponsor this month. All are welcome.

Information on our most recent meeting can be found http://www.sbe5.info/lastmeeting.html

Elsewhere in Atlanta in the near future:
(all SMPTE, AES & VSF meeting/seminar attendance count for SBE recertification credit)

2) SMPTE Atlanta Meeting:

There is no SMPTE ATL meeting planned for May. However, you would be well advised to take advantage of this "special event" the folks at SMPTE National are bringing to town during the merry month of May:

This seminar will build upon the successful 2010 series of SMPTE Regional File Based Workflow Seminars and is based on direct participant feedback from those seminars. This important follow up will provide a practical approach to implementing an effective file based environment.

Presentations and discussions during the program will focus on real world experiences and lessons learned during the transition to a file based environment at KLCS-TV/DT in Los Angeles. Instructors, Paul Turner, Vice President of Broadcast Market Development at Harmonic, and Alan Popkin, Director of TV Engineering at KLCS-TV/DT, will speak to the steps taken, the challenges faced and the final successful steps taken during the transition from a traditional broadcast facility to one with a file based work workflow at its core.

Seminar Objectives

Upon completion of this seminar, participants will be able to:

1. Discuss, in practical terms, the key characteristics of an effective file based work flow 2. Describe steps taken to effectively implement the file based work flow environment at KLCS-TV/DT 3. Draw direct correlations between the use cases discussed during this seminar and the participant's home facility including identification of significant challenges and possible vendor neutral solutions to implementation of an effective file based environment.

This seminar will cost you $199 to attend if you are a SMPTE member, $299 if you are not a SMPTE member. Students get in for the discounted rate of $59, but make sure you bring your student ID when you come to the seminar...
