Maybe it's a barney. I have an old barney that is so stiff with the lead foil inside that it keeps a pretty rigid shape. I would think that an NC would be pretty noisy in a barney but I suppose of the shot kept the mic at
a workable distance . . .

Are they using blimps on new digital slr cameras?

See my reply to Eric, its a blimp but its open and so much of is hidden that its hard to see what it is. A barney is a soft cover for a camera. They were used sometimes on locations to muffle camera noise but very often they were electric blankets made to keep the lubricant from thickening up in cold weather. Mitchell cameras, at least, like old cars can be hard to start when cold.
