There are two version of the early lenses, one for the SLX and the other for the 6006. The later version has a knurled metal diaphragm ring. Those lens motors seem to be different, and last longer.
One has to keep in mind that the early SLX lenses have electronics in them that are 30 years old. The 6006 are going on 20 years now. To top it off, much of this equipment has a poor or non-existent service record.
If the motor is bad, you might want to replace both, as the tend to go out together. That way you'll only be charged one time to pop open that puppy.

I still don't understand why you said they will not work on newer cameras.
I thought it was the other way around... Newer lenses not on older cameras.

There is nothing stated in the manual of the 6008 that says that you should not
use a non-PQ lens on these camera. It actually contains a section that
discribes which functions are supported by these lenses on the newer bodies.

Having said this, both my 150mm Sonnar and 50mm Distagon are non- PQ, and before
I got my 80mm PQ Planar I used my non-PQ version on the 6008. The only problem
I have so far is a stucked shutter on my 50mm Distagon. This lens is now at the
workshop waiting for repair. The repair guy told me that it is probably greased
up shutter blades. I expect to hear from him within a week or two to see what
the actual problem, how the repair went and what the repaircosts are.

Hope this helps,
